Whether you’re a skier or a snowboarder you know of Warren Miller, a name that is synonymous with ski films.  After 60 years of composing, filming and editing ski flicks, Warren Miller’s Dynasty arrived for 2009.  We caught the movie event hosted by Boyne and the Grand Traverse Ski Club, downtown Traverse City at the Opera House on a snowy Saturday evening.

With the snow falling at a rapid rate outside, a unique buzz filled the opera house as we talked with like minded individuals about the upcoming season and the recent announcement that a few ski resorts were opening up runs for the season.

“Dynasty” was sure to please everyone that came out – filled with crazy drops from the backcountry stars ripping the fresh from the pacific northwest and China, to a number spots featuring sweet shots of newschoolers ripping up the park.  One segment did pay homage to grassroots skiing in Michigan.  Timber Ridge, located in southwest Michigan, was the location of the shots featuring Lucas and Adam Schrab (remember the farm boys jumping over hay?) returning with an old school bus, wooden ramps and a killer streetbike powered rope tow!  Don’t forget about the amazing clips of bucket skiers taking on the winter X-Games and competing in skiercross.  It takes serious guts to strap yourself in a bucket ski and huck yourself down the side of a mountain, on a course design for traditional skiers and snowboarders.

In addition to the movie, a ton of free swag was raffled off to show goers at the intermission.  Orage, Burton, Analog, Snoloha, Giro, Skull Candy and Nordica are just a few of the manufactures that took part in the swag giveaway and Boyne stepped it huge by raffling off a Boyne Gold Pass valued at $700+.  As always, the GT Ski Club threw a great event at an excellent location and we’re already looking forward to next year.  We were pretty busy catching up with everyone, but take a moment and check out some of the pics we posted onFacebook.

As we are just getting ready to kickoff the 09/10 season, Warren Miller reminds us of two things:

“On a powder day… you have no friends” and “you can get busy living or get busy dying”
