This past Saturday, we packed up and headed southeast to get our stoke on early at the 2nd annual Birmingham Rail Jam.  If you couldn’t make it, no worries, we have you covered.

Put on by Otsego Club and Don Thomas Sporthaus, the rail jam took place directly in the median between Woodward Ave and Old Woodward Ave – you couldn’t have asked for a better spot to host an event and it was an awesome fall day in Birmingham. With the coordinators bringing in fresh snow from local ice rinks, it was like the season had already started.  Amateur skiers and snowboarders showed up from around Michigan and Ohio to show off their skills for a chance at some killer loot, along with bragging rights for taking the first comp of the season.

A few pros were on hand as judges, with some taking part in a brief demo for the spectators before the comp began.  We did have an opportunity to catch up with pro skier Chris Laker who sat down for a brief one-on-one session inside Don Thomas.

Though short, the setup was pretty solid with a couple different features pulled right from the O-Park at Otsego Club, along with a portable skate bowl that was occupied all day.

Vendors at Birmingham Am Jam

A number of vendors had tents setup to showcase some of the 2010/2011 lineup and throw out stickers and swag to the crowd.  The crowd was super chill, with a lot of ‘core’ enthusiasts showing up to take part in the event.  We ran into a number of kids that were stoked on the Am Jam, happy with its open, no pressure format and were pumped to just get out and ride.  From the looks of things, the event was a success and we’re looking forward to an even bigger rail jam next year.

Check out some of the pics we snagged and watch for our video interview with Chris Laker.
