After catching wind of this on our Facebook Page last night, we received the official press release from Boyne this morning. Read on.
During the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 22, prior to the slopes opening at Boyne Mountain Resort, a six inch snowmaking water pipe with approximately 350 pounds of pressure, failed causing significant erosion and the collapse of one tower on the Superbowl chairlift. As the failure occurred prior to the slopes opening, no one was on the Superbowl trail or on the chairlift at the time of the incident.
Superbowl is located on the southernmost side of the slopes, and no other area of terrain has been affected by this occurrence. Superbowl accounts for approximately 40 skiable acres of the resort’s 415 total acres. Boyne Mountain is working with engineers and the state of Michigan to repair the chairlift and reopen the lift and terrain as soon as possible. A timeline for reopening is not yet available.
