Boyne Falls, Mich. (December 9, 2009) To the delight of many, Mother Nature has shown her face once again bringing the second winter storm of the season and up to two feet of powder is expected by the season’s opening day, Friday, December 11 at Boyne Highlands in Harbor Springs and Boyne Mountain of Boyne Falls.
After nearly a week of snowmaking with Boyne’s proprietary Low-E fan guns and plenty of snowfall, the slopes open on Friday at 9 a.m. with at least 14 runs and 3 chairlifts at Boyne Highlands and 6 runs and 3 chairlifts at Boyne Mountain. Many favorite trails can be expected to open this weekend including Boyne Highlands’ Heather, Challenger, Olympic, K2, North Camelot, beginner terrain and more; Boyne Mountain’s Victor, Hemlock, Center McLouth, Pierson, Boyneland and Deer Run. Additional terrain can be expected to open soon depending on snowfall levels and further snowmaking.
Discounted lift tickets are offered Friday, December 11 through Thursday, December 17. Tickets are $40 for adults, $35 for teens (13-18) and seniors (65-69), $30 for juniors (9-12), and free for children ages eight and under and seniors ages 70 and up. Flex four-hour tickets are also available. Beginning Friday, slopes are open daily, 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Boyne Highlands gave skiers and snowboarders their first preview of the season on Saturday and Sunday, December 5 and 6, when the resort opened the Heather for skiing and snowboarding with lift access provided by the high-speed Heather Express quad. Boyne Highlands offers the highest vertical in Lower Michigan and combined with Boyne Mountain, the two resorts boasts a total of 114 trails and 845 skiable acres once fully open for the season.
