A couple of weeks ago we ducked out early on a Friday and headed north to Harbor Springs in search of some springtime action at Nub’s Nob. With the weather holding, we kicked off the evening with a fire and a bit of the NCAA tournament.

The following day was wild and crazy at Nub’s Nob with all sorts of different activities. The day started out with a full parking lot and a few of the Midwest ski reps having their tents set up with all of next year’s gear for some demo action.

The morning moved along with a fun race for the all of the kids that came out. That race included a few rollers, small jumps, and even some balloons. Don’t forget the costume contest. Outfits included 1970’s neon jump suits, cowboys, and even Bat-Woman! We should have brought our Gaper Day gear. The fun didn’t stop there; face painting went on at the base of the hill. Although that wasn’t the only thing going on at the bottom of the hill. The Petoskey steel drum band kept our ears happy all day long while they played outside on the deck.

By this time, our crew was hungry. The hillside barbeque was rolling with some freshly grilled burgers and hot dogs. Hot dogs were not only being served slopeside, but there was also some hot dog’n going on in the park. The Nub’s Nob park crew had everything on point with some of the best features in the Midwest. There were over 20 rails and boxes set up with around 10 perfectly carved jumps.

The day was not over. The main event had still not occurred. It was the wettest and craziest event of the season. The Nub’s Nob Soaker Cup Competition was very intense and fun to watch. Skiers were either fully dressed in costumes or just barely dressed in bathing suits. Each participant had to cross a roughly 40-foot long, man-made pond. It was a no win situation. Every time you made it across the pond you had to hike back up and start from a closer point. In the end, there was only one man standing. Everyone else had gotten wet, but most importantly, the crowd was entertained!
