Based out of Grand Rapids, Marhar Snowboards is a small company doing big things. We originally met co-owner's Josh Skiles and Nate Morse in 2010 at The BOB Rail Jam downtown Grand Rapids and finally had an opportunity to catch up with them for an interview at their design and production facility in Grandville.
Back in 2008, ideas started flowing in a small 10'x10' room with very limited knowledge of what it took to build a snowboard. Ever since, Marhar has honed their craft of making high-quality, hand-built snowboards.
Build local, Buy local
A good portion of Marhar's materials come from within 25 miles or so of their facility and co-owner's Josh and Nate take the buy local approach seriously, stating they receive a lot of support from the local market. Another good point is that nothing is outsourced, from graphic design to production, everything is handled by Marhar in-house here in Michigan.
Eco-concious, Going Green
The influence behind many of Marhar's construction materials is being green. Natural materials such as Bamboo and Poplar cores, mixed with newer technology like carbon fiber, allow their boards to be lightweight, super-flexible, and somewhat eco-friendly at the same time.
Marhar currently produces three board models, a Jib-Park board, an All-Mountain board and a new beginner line, along with their 'design your own board.' All board models are available with different graphics to match your style preference.
Where can you buy a Marhar Snowboard?
You can catch a glimpse of Marhar Snowboards at local southwest Michigan shops such as Buffalo Bob's in Grand Haven, or Bill & Paul's in Grand Rapids.
