Some great news this week for skiers and snowboarders in Michigan. Temps have dropped significantly and we actually received a bit of natural snow in many parts of the state. The Race to Open continues this week with a number of areas making snow and actually pushing for an opener to happen this weekend.

Upper Peninsula:
BlackJack, Big Powderhorn and Norway Mountain are all currently making snow and Norway Mountain plans to open Saturday.
Indianhead opens up on Friday (today) with Marquette Mountain finally opening up a few runs as of Thursday afternoon. You can expect Mt. Ripley to open next weekend at some point and of course Ski Brule is open with a staggering 36″ base already!

Northern Lower Peninsula:
Finally the temps are in line for most of the lower peninsula, assisting in snowmaking efforts.
Both Boyne Highlands and Mountain will re-open on Saturday. Caberfae has been pumping out the snow as of lately and plans to open on Saturday as well. Not to be outdone is Nub’s Nob, who will also open back up on Saturday as they boast the most runs open in the lower peninsula. UPDATE Crystal Mountain is currently making snow and anticipates to open on Saturday Dec. 4th. Shanty Creek received over 12″ of snow in the last 24 hrs and is shooting for a Dec. 10th opener.
Southwest Lower Peninsula:
Some areas in the southwest corner of the state have been able to open. Bittersweet opened back up on Thursday along with Pando opening back up this weekend.
Southeast Lower Peninsula:
Success has been had all over the southeast corner of the state for snowmaking. Mt. Holly, Pine Knob, and Alpine Valley all plan to be open Friday afternoon. You can also expect Mt. Brighton to open back up on Friday afternoon.
