Last weekend was the annual Spring Board meeting at Boyne Highlands and the MiSkiReport street team was out taking in the festivities.  Contributor’s Matt VanSteenis and Jason Hyde were on the scene all weekend.

Spring Board Meeting? Yes Please! The 14th annual Spring Board Meeting at Boyne Highlands was this past weekend, and let’s just say it ruled.  So many high fives and backside fives one would explode with awesomeness.  When I saw a few pictures come acrossFacebook last week, I knew this would be a great event.  So we smashed into the van and headed to the cabin in Charlevoix.  As we arrived to the base of the challenger lift I was greeted with a high five and smile saying fill this sheet of paper out so you can have an awesome day.  So I kindly obliged.  While on the lift up for that first run, we were talking about how awesome it was to see all these kids from all over the state in one place.  The level of riding was incredible.  Everyone was throwing down.  Something that I have witnessed in the past, but this was a whole new game.

The Highlands crew made it happen by adding a hip and three jumps to Heather, a set of moto-doubles into a gap on, gap off butter box on the lower half of Little John.  While the Challenger park for the most part stayed the same, the jumps were reshaped. North Challenger had the addition of two flat bars and two boxes, South Challenger was left clean for your euro-carving enjoyment.

After the festivities were over Saturday, Sunday rolled in with a vengeance. Rain, thunder, more rain.  Sunday in the park was no more for the Highlands, so we headed south to Boyne Mountain. Upon arrival the temp was pushing 80, sunny, no wind.  Complete opposite of that morning and just a rad day.  I have nothing more to say than that, good friends, a few blue ribbons, and as many laybacks one could handle.  Go the the 15th annual Board meeting, even if you have 2 boards under your feet, bring your best friends, and some sunblock. I think this will be an event that I will be apart of for a long time.

There’s only one time during the year that you can drive around Boyne Highland’s complex and park alongside 40-50 cars at the base of the Challenger chairlift.  The sun was shining all day and everyone was riding in either t-shirts or hoodies; a true sign of perfect spring conditions.  Skiers and boarders found all kinds of unique lines scattered across the hill and were getting super creative on the different features. It was a perfect day to not worry about falling – getting sunburned was the only problem anyone could have had. Heavy metal rocked through the speakers and hot dogs grilled by the lift all day.  Although inclement weather on Sunday shut the park down a day early, Saturday at Spring Board Meeting was still a great way to cap off the season here in Michigan.
